As early readers, they can see reading as not only text, but also as visuals, videos, interactives. If nothing else, it will increase motivation, but more importantly, I think the interaction among various senses will increase learning to read.
Whiteboards are extremely popular. There is a camp that is very against the use of interactive whiteboards due to their high cost. Now, however, there are more and more less costly options that allow students and teachers to do similar things - using just a projector, which most classrooms do currently have, so no additional hardware costs.
